Digital music writing accessible to everyone

We are delighted to welcome our new Corporate Members Odla Music to TiME. Based in Italy, Odla Music is an innovative music technology company, committed to making digital music writing accessible to everyone. Launched in 2019, the Odla keyboard is a notation interface built for writing digital notation and is compatible with MuseScore and Dorico 4.

There are two versions available and the Odla for blind or visually impaired users contains additional features that enable all musicians and composers to navigate the keyboard and the chosen notation software. The keyboard is tactile with raised buttons and staff lines, logically arranged keys, and a customisable voice over function to support orientation and reading of the digital score.

The team at Odla launched their involvement in the TiME community by the generous donation of two of their ground-breaking keyboards to our ‘Accessibility Tester’’ programme. We were delighted to link up with Steinberg to demonstrate the keyboard in use with Dorico 4 at the recent Music Teachers Association conference. The second keyboard is now with the team at TAVIP (Technology Association of Visually Impaired People) and will be put through its paces to learn more about how the accessibility features can support access. Learning from the project will provide feedback and inform future developments - we look forward to hearing more.
