Teachers have a hard time trying to keep up to date with the latest in music technology. There are always new pieces of hardware being released and software updates/upgrades to contemplate. Music education technology is still a very young subject area, and at TiME we understand it’s difficult to keep on top of things.
Notation software has mainly been the number one piece of music software in the classroom, but more and more there is also the demand for a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to also be available.
If a school is well funded, Apple computers and iPads are often found. These offer the GarageBand DAW for ‘free’ (if you have the budget for the hardware), and can lead onto the Logic DAW. Other PC and Mac compatible DAW software includes the ever popular Cubase DAW, as well as Ableton. Cloud based software has also become popular at the entry level, and these include the BandLab, SoundTrap and Soundation DAWs.
TiME aims to help music school teachers to understand how to use music technology software and hardware. We will highlight Music Technology Courses, along with educational resources on the TiME website.
