A warm welcome to our Corporate Partners at Arcana Instruments

We are delighted to welcome Arcana Instruments, makers of the Arcana Strum as TiME Corporate Partners, and looking forward to meeting the team at the ‘Connectivity to Music Technology, SEN/D and Inclusion’ conference on September 22nd at NMPAT.

The Arcana Strum was created to emulate the experience of playing a guitar. In 2015 the team, based in Tel Aviv in Israel, were presented with a challenge, they explained that “the Arcana story begins when a family of a young girl with motor disabilities came to us with a very special request. They asked that we help make her dream come true – that is to share the stage with her friends and make music together with them.” 

Arcana was founded by a team of musicians, engineers and designers who joined forces to help support this young girl, as well as opening access to music making for people across the world. Following rigorous testing, piloting and support from musicians (disabled and non-disabled) the Arcana Strum was created to provide a fully accessible instrument. 

On one side of the instrument there is a silicone keypad that can be pressed to produce chords and on the other side there is a handle that enables strumming and ‘picking’ of strings. The strings are haptic giving the player the sensation of the strings vibrating as they are played.

The instrument can be adapted in many ways to meet individual needs such as adjusted for left-handed or right-handed playing, the size, number and angle of the chord pad and keys. There is also a choice of 6 different styles of handles to support wider access. The Arcana is connected to external devices such as iPad, phone app or a DAW to produce the sounds. 

The flexibility of the instrument is fantastic and provides a high-quality playing experience with comparable scope for a musician to learn, develop and master playing as a traditional instrument.
