Emmie Ward is a folk musician who works as a music and folk arts practitioner. She is the lead tutor for the Folk Unlimited inclusive music project at the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
Folk Unlimited is a three year project which aims to help clients build music skills, learn about the musical traditions of the British Isles and enjoy folk dancing and music making together.
For several years she has worked in a wide variety of settings including Day Centres, FE colleges and schools where she has worked as an SEN/D lecturer often with people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
In her music facilitation role Emmie blends traditional acoustic sounds with the use of music technology and is excited by the potential this gives participants to compose and create and explore.
Emmie specialises in using a multi-sensory approach to storytelling and music and is a member of the multi - sensory storytelling cooperative “Soundtracks”, who offer bespoke storytelling sessions for schools and colleges. They have also been commissioned by the London Wildlife trust to deliver a series of themed stories around “The Great North Wood” helping people learn about their natural heritage.
Emmie has also facilitated many community arts projects such as “Everybody Dance” a dance project with performers with PMLD and also lead an inclusive choir in Weighting by Extraordinary Bodies, an inspirational, inclusive, touring circus which travelled the UK and collaborated with each local community.
