Review 2024 - Looking back at a positive year!
We want to say a huge THANK YOU! to everyone who has supported us and taken part, we are looking forward to working with you all again in 2025!
Review 2024
2024 has been an exciting year for everyone involved with Technology in Music Education UK (TiME). Through various projects, collaborations, and events, we have continued to champion the creative use of music technology in education. It has been inspiring to see Hubs, schools, and educators embracing music technology, particularly in supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEN/D) to engage with and progress in music. This year’s highlights include launching new professional development resources, expanding our reach both nationally and internationally, and strengthening our membership and corporate partnerships. We look forward to building on this success in 2025.
Partnerships and Projects
In partnership with the Leicestershire Music Hub and the University of Hull, we developed the MTEC DAW training course and resources. This free online training attracted over 100 educators, enhancing their understanding of using a DAW in secondary music education.
A special thank you goes to Music Teacher Magazine for its ongoing support of music education by providing up-to-date and practical information. This has been particularly valuable during a year of significant changes to the music education landscape. We have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with the team to share articles, review music technology, and contribute to the Editorial Advisory Board.
While this year has presented many challenges for Hubs, it has also brought new opportunities, including the Capital Grant Fund. We were delighted to engage with the DfE and Arts Council to successfully advocate for the inclusion of accessible music technology and, crucially, music software within the fund.
Events 2024
2024 was an exciting year for music education events, beginning with the ‘TiME Zone’ at the Music and Drama Education Expo in January and concluding with our Table of Tech at the Kent and Medway Music Education Conference in December. Across the sector, a key theme has been the focus on supporting music education and broadening access through technology. It has been fantastic to contribute to such a diverse range of events, working together to enhance music education and accessibility for all.
Membership & Community
Our community continues to grow, with over 900 people joining TiME as free members, benefiting from regular news, updates, and access to our free resources. We were also thrilled to welcome new Corporate Members from across the UK and as far afield as China. A special thank you goes to Ableton, who became Corporate Members in August 2024 and supported the successful delivery of the Access & Accessibility in Music Careers conference in Nottingham. The range of new, adaptive, and accessible music technology is expanding rapidly, and it’s inspiring to see the education sector embracing these innovative products.
Looking ahead
2025 is off to an excellent start! On Monday, 6th January, we had a fantastic day with Wolverhampton Music Service, delivering our Table of Tech session to their dedicated team of peripatetic music teachers. Together, we explored how new music technologies can help broaden access to music education. Later this week, we’re heading to London to work with the music team at Treetops School, which specialises in supporting children and young people with autism, and we’re excited to see the impact of this collaboration.
On 23rd January, we’ll join the team at Leicestershire Music for the Music Educators Conference. At the end of the month, on 30th and 31st January, we’ll return to the Music and Drama Education Expo with our TiME Zone. Entry is free and you can attend on either day. Please come along!
February brings more exciting opportunities, including an in-person DAW training day on Wednesday 12th February, as part of the MTEC project. This free session is open to all; for more information and to reserve your spot, email kate@techmusiced.org.uk. We’re also thrilled to be collaborating once again with the inspiring Yasin El Ashrafi at HQ C.A.N to deliver the Leicester Music Conference in partnership with the Leicester Music Board on Friday 28th February 2025.
With so much to look forward to, we wish you all a Happy New Year and a productive, positive year ahead in music technology education!
