Tim Yates and Tim Palm (DJ Arthro): Bespoke Instrument Development

We are excited to announce that Tim Yates and Tim Palm (Aka DJ Arthro) will be joining us at Connectivity on Sept 22nd to demonstrate the innovative and accessible technology they have created and to discuss the process of creating bespoke musical instruments. Their award-winning instrument LoopFree is designed to work within Palm’s current live performance and recording setup. They will discuss the process of bespoke instrument development, and the ways that such instruments can be integrated into a wide range of performance practices.

Tim Palm is an Award-winning multi-instrumentalist, electronic music producer and instrument designer. As a live-performer Tim utilises a lot of Music Technology equipment - so much that he has described his set up as “The Spaceship”, which he plays using a variety of unorthodox techniques in order to achieve creative freedom. He has recently worked with Tim Yates and the team at Human Instruments to create LOOPFREE, a brand-new piece of tech that enables Tim to live-loop and create live and improvised music performances in new ways.

Tim Yates, Musician, Sound-Artist, Instrument Builder and Founder/Director of Hackoustic explains “Without a usable instrument it’s often impossible for a disabled musician to be able to take part in music making. Sometimes, particularly as musicians develop their practice and become more advanced, off-the-shelf accessible tech can become limiting. Given the availability of low-cost technology in conjunction with the ever-growing maker culture it is often possible for musicians to develop bespoke instruments that meet their specific access requirements. “

Join us at Connectivity to Music Technology, SEN/D and Inclusion on 22nd September 2022 at NMPAT in Northampton to hear about how new technologies are changing approaches, attitudes, and access to music.
